Vivian M. Stephens, age 96 of Oshkosh, died at Northpoint Medical and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, April 22, 2007. She was born in Chicago on June 16, 1910 to Mahlon and Nellie (Lang) Wilcox.
Vivian moved to Oshkosh with her grandmother. She graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1929 and began working for a dentist, Dr. Draper. Eugene "Bud" Stephens was a patient of Dr. Draper's. Vivian and Bud were married on August 20, 1930 in St. John Lutheran Church. In 1947 their daughter Barbara was born. They lovingly cared for Barbara until she died in 1987. Bud died April 23, 1992.
After working for Dr. Draper for 18 years, Vivian began work as a church secretary. She retired as secretary from First United Methodist Church after 19 years. Vivian and Bud were fans of Big Band Music; her favorite television show was Lawrence Welk.
Vivian is survived by her cousins, grand nieces and nephews, and many friends. She will be missed at Northpoint Med and Rehab where she was the first "Queen" of the Red Hat Society.
A memorial service for Vivian will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at First United Methodist Church, 700 W. Linwood Avenue, Pastor Steven Kaehr officiating. A time for gathering and sharing will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
