Mrs. Vernon L. (Betty M.) Bero Sr. passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on June 23, 2006 at the age of 72. She was born November 10, 1933 in Algoma, WI to Henry and Mary (Laurent) Barbiaux. She attended St. Joseph's Academy in Green Bay. She married Vernon L. Bero on September 12, 1953 at Cathedral Catholic Church in Green Bay. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Green Bay.
Together, Betty and Vern taught Square Dancing for 30 years beginning in 1960 with the Cool City Squares in Algoma. They continued with the North Star Squares in Marinette, the Swinging Cousins, and the West-Turners in Green Bay. They owned and operated Verbet's Square Dance Shop, and managed The Westernaire Square Dance Center, both in Green Bay. They started the Mill City Cloggers in 1982 and taught clogging for 10 years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Green Bay, Chapter 451
Betty loved doing things for, and with her family; including camping, square dancing, clog dancing, fishing, playing cards, playing bingo and going for long walks. She loved to listen to her children and grandchildren sing and play musical instruments. She enjoyed going to countless concerts and sporting events for her grandchildren. She enjoyed being a "snow-bird", spending winters in Gulf Shores, AL where she has many very special friends.
She is survived by her husband, Vern; a brother, Robert Barbiaux of Green Bay, sisters, Mona (Jim) Irish of Florida and Bonita (Roger) Behling of Florida; her five children; Lynn (Vern) Doxtator of Freedom, Vernon "Bud" Bero Jr. and Trish, Michael (Barbara) Bero, Holly Bero, Thomas (Kelly) Bero, all from Green Bay; 17 grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Tyler, Jeff, Briana, Keri, Trisha, Zak, Kayla, Kyle, Cassilyn, Joel, Drew, Jacob, Logan, Matthew and Megan; two great grandchildren, Devin and Alexander; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ruben Barbiaux, and a nephew, Robert Barbiaux, Jr.
A memorial service, celebrating her life, will be held at First Baptist Church of Green Bay, 2421 West Point Rd at 11:00 A.M. on Friday June 30, 2006 with the Rev. Steve Fewell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established for our friends at Unity Hospice to whom the family would like to extend its sincerest thanks.
