Donald B. Zellmer, age 99, of Oshkosh, died Saturday morning, May 27, 2006 at Aurora Medical Center. He was born on August 10, 1906 in Oshkosh to George and Louise (Senn) Zellmer. On June 26, 1937 Don married Lillian Behnke in Oshkosh.
Don was a co-owner of Orchard's Hatchery in the Oshkosh area that supplied eggs and chickens to local grocery stores. At this same time he was the registrar for the local business college. The Oshkosh Shop of Work Adjustment Service later employed Don as a manager. Don graduated from Oshkosh with a degree in agriculture and belonged to Alpha Gamma.
Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting with his buddy, Harold Eichstadt and was known to sing, hum, and whistle old-fashion tunes around his house. In later years, Don took special pride in caring for his only child, Bonnie. The Frey children, next-door to Don, knew that Hughes Chocolates were a treat that Don regularly had on hand.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Zellmer of Oshkosh; two sisters-in-law, Florence (Clair) Allen of Oshkosh and Fern Viall of Salinas, California; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Steve and Judy Frey and family, Mark King, Harold and Sally Eichstadt, Shirley and Bob Futta, and Leone Stueber.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with Reverend Marvin Alhborn officiating. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the funeral chapel. A memorial is being established in Don's memory. Bonnie wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Pleasant Acres and Aurora Medical Center for the care and support given to her father.
