Dorothy Kuhl Olson was born March 9, 1910 to Lillian Held Kuhl and Fred Kuhl in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She lived there until she graduated from Stevens Point State College and taught elementary school in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Dorothy married Gerald J. Olson on August 16, 1934. They lived in a number of small towns in Wisconsin, where both were teachers. They moved to Oshkosh in 1957, where Gerald taught at Wisconsin State University, Oshkosh, and Dorothy returned to school to earn her certificate to teach music. For 15 years she taught elementary music in the Winneconne Public Schools.
Dorothy and Gerald had two daughters, Judy DeBroux of Oshkosh, and Gerry Olson of Corvallis, Oregon. She is also survived by her grandchildren, George G. (Catherine) Curtis of Portland, Oregon, Cathryn Curtis (Jack) Schmidt of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Eric W. (Felicity Harper) Curtis of Milan, Michigan, Greg P. (Nancy) Curtis of Appleton, Gregory DeBroux of Madison, Elizabeth DeBroux (Roger) Kotenberg of Oshkosh, and Molly DeBroux (Steve) Dittmer; and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Dorothy is a brother, Norman Kuhl of Hudson, Florida, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her older brother, Fred, and her husband, Gerald, who died in 1986 after 51 years of marriage.
Dorothy was an excellent pianist, and played organ for several churches throughout her lifetime. She gave private piano lessons and taught music at the Lincoln County Normal School for several years. Dorothy was an active member of Chapter BA, P.E.O. celebrating her 51st year in 2000. She was also a member of Eastern Star, University Dames, and the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family and friends, especially enjoying celebrating the holidays with them. Playing Mrs. Claus for the Salvation Army, with Jim Johnson of Oshkosh as Santa, was a favorite activity for Dorothy, as was playing Christmas carols. In 2000 Dorothy moved to Park View Health Center, where she enjoyed the most wonderful care possible.
