Edwin D. Mendels, age 92, of Oshkosh, died on August 4, 2012, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Chicago, IL on August 3, 1920, the son of Irwin and Marie (DeBerge) Mendels. He graduated from Senn High School in Feb. 1938, Metropolitan Business College (Chicago, IL) in August 1938, University of Illinois (Champaign, IL) in June 1942 and earned his MBA at Bradley University (Peoria, IL) in 1949. From March 1, 1943 to April 13, 1946, Ed served in World War II, ending with the rank of full Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. Ed married Janice Griswold on Jan. 31, 1948. She predeceased him on Feb. 17, 1978. On Dec. 3, 1985, Ed married Ruth C. Tiede. Ed had a long and distinguished career in sales, marketing and new product development, retiring from Appleton Papers, Inc. in 1988. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi and Trinity Episcopal Church.

Ed is survived by his wife, Ruth Mendels of Oshkosh; his children, Marcia M. (Chris Manspeaker) Mendels, of Miranda, CA., Marc G. Mendels of San Diego, CA, Katherine S. (William) Schendt of Janesville, WI and Paul G. (Lori) Mendels of Greenville, WI; his grandsons, Jonathan M. Schendt of Denver, CO and Steven V. Schendt of Janesville, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife and the mother of his children, Jan.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 10:00AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 311 Division Street, Oshkosh, WI with Reverend Tom Haverly officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, lasting memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice. Ed's family would like to thank the staff and residents at Evergreen Retirement Community for their tender care and friendship.

Dad, you were not only a fantastic husband, father and grandfather, but you were truly a wonderful friend to everyone! We love you!
