Esther I. Koplitz, age 95, of Ripon and formerly of Oshkosh, died Wednesday morning, August 3, 2005 at Fountain View Care Center. She was born on March 30, 1910 in Hortonville to Albert and Hulda (Schuman) Diestler. Esther married Eldor Koplitz on October 11, 1928 in the parsonage of First English Lutheran Church by Reverend E.A. Koch. They were married for 74 years before Eldor's death on July 27, 2003.
Esther and Eldor owned and operated a farm in the township of Algoma for 40 years before their retirement. She attended parochial school and high school in Hortonville. She was a longtime member of First English Lutheran Church and the Dorcas Circle at the church. Esther enjoyed needlework and was a member of the Kroweldeen Club for many years. Fishing and card playing were favorite pastimes for Esther.
Survivors include four sons: Marvin (Dorothy) Koplitz; Kenneth (Joan) Koplitz; Howard (Karen) Koplitz; and Larry (Carol) Koplitz, all of Oshkosh; one daughter: Shirley (David) Treleven of Omro; 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; and a close friend: Eleanor Sussex of Ripon.
Preceding Esther in death are her husband; five brothers: Irvin, Arthur, Walter, Theodore, and Harold Diestler; two sisters: Martha Rhyner and Elda Krock.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota Street, with Reverend Chuck Fluegel officiating. Interment will be at Ellenwood Cemetery where Esther will be laid to rest next to Eldor. A time of visitation and support will be held on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Her family is establishing a memorial in Esther's memory.
