Florence E. Schmidt, long time Oshkosh resident, passed away with her family by her side after a short but courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the Sauk County Health Center. She was born in Ashland on February 21, 1925, a daughter of the late Franklin and Sarah (Haskins) Brown.
Surviving Florence are her sisters, Dorothy (Virgil) Schroeder of Neenah and June Paukstat-Muchow of Rock Springs; brother, James (Darlene) Brown of Henderson, Nevada; grandchildren, David (Denise) Ulrich Jr., Terry, Crystal and Cassandra Ulrich; and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan, Alley and Sidney Ulrich and Hope Kupczyk. She is also known by many other local friends and family. Her sons, Darrell Ulrich and David James Ulrich Sr.; a granddaughter, Nicole Ulrich; brothers, Frank and Charlie Brown; sisters, Mary Schliecher, Bertha Griffy and Grace Brown; half-brothers, Robert and Otto Brown; and half-sisters, Gladys Menger and Clara Shultz preceded her in death.
Florence was very active with the Salvation Army in Oshkosh. Over the years she had worked at Oshkosh Wood Products, Pluswood, Oshkosh Trunk Factory and the Diamond Match Company. She was married and widowed three times to Alfred Ulrich, August Rumlow and Ernest Schmidt.
Captain Johnny Harsh will lead a service of remembrance for Florence at the Salvation Army, 417 Algoma Blvd., at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, March 8th. Family and friends are invited to gather in their chapel beginning at 12:30 PM. She will be laid to rest at Peace Lutheran Cemetery beside her first husband.
