Obituary

Germaine R. Hitchcock, age 78, of Oshkosh, died Saturday May 27, 2006 at Aurora Medical Center. She was born on March 21, 1928 in Oshkosh to Leo and Bertha (Reischl) Polishinski. Germaine married Melvin Hitchcock on May 13, 1959 in Oshkosh.


Germaine was employed by K-Mart as a sales associate for over 50 years. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church. She was a long-time volunteer for Father Carr's Place 2B, the Senior Center, and the Mayor's Breakfast. Germaine enjoyed raising prize-winning tulips, taking bus trips with her husband, Melvin, and talking to the neighborhood children during her daily walks.


Survivors include her husband, Melvin Hitchcock of Oshkosh; three sisters, Jeanette Rice, Judith (Jerry) Faust, and Patricia (Clifford) Neubauer all of Oshkosh; two brothers-in-law, Robert Schmiedel and Raymond Hitchcock both of Oshkosh; three sisters-in-law, Marlene Polishinski, LouAnn Polishinski, and Monica Berrell all of Oshkosh; many nieces and nephews.


Preceding Germaine in death are her parents; two sisters, Beatrice Polishinski and Marcella Schmiedel; three brothers, Gilbert, Gerald, and Leon Polishinski.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Vincent Catholic Church, 216 West South Park Avenue, with Reverend William Van DeKreeke officiating. Interment will follow the services at Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visitation and support will be held on Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial expressions of sympathy may be made to the Leukemia Society of America in Germaine's name.
