Jane F. Mathe, age 88, of Oshkosh, died Sunday evening, March 12, 2006 at Aurora Medical Center. Jane, a life-long Oshkosh resident, was born on June 12, 1917, the youngest of five children, to the late Henry and Emma (Pahlow) Noe. She attended St. Vincent's Grade School, was a member of the first class to graduate from St. Vincent's Junior High School, and graduated from Oshkosh High School. On April 11, 1939 Jane married Harold G. "Baldy" Mathe at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Oshkosh and he preceded her in death on February 3, 1966.
Jane was employed for many years at local businesses starting at Henderson-Hoyt, Standard Kollsman, Piggy-Wiggly, and others before retiring in 1982 from Sears. She was an active life-long member of St. Vincent Parish, St. Vincent Christian Women, and Oshkosh branch of Catholic Knights, former member of Golden Agers, Friends of the Library, Sears Retirees, and the Red Hat Club. Jane enjoyed volunteering at the St. Vincent DePaul Store and at afternoon bingo.
Survivors include a daughter: Suzanne Jane (Francis "Butch") Mathe of Oshkosh; three grandchildren: Pamela M. (Scott) Kletzien of Waldo, Wisconsin; Paul A. (Jodi) Mathe of Black Creek, Wisconsin; Patricia "Trish" T. (Jason) Schaefer of Stoughton, Wisconsin; five great-grandchildren: Christopher W. Kletzien, Elizabeth L. Mathe, Emilie J. Mathe, Evelyn M. Schaefer, Alyson R. Schaefer; step great-grandson: Nickolas L. (Anna) Kletzien; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Jane in death is her husband: Harold G. Mathe, on February 3, 1966; a son: Marvin H. Mathe on September 6, 1953; her parents; three sisters: Elizabeth Schnoor, Clara Service Paul, Mary Downey; and a brother: Henry J. Noe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Vincent Catholic Church, 216 West South Park Ave., with Reverend Carl Schmitt officiating, assisted by Deacon Raymond Brandenstein. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery following the mass. A time of visitation and support will be held on Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Family members are establishing a memorial in Jane's name.
Jane's family wishes to thank the staff of Aurora Medical Center 2 West, Aurora Hospice Care, and Northpoint Medical and Rehabilitation Center for their love and care given to their mother and grandmother.
