Lyle J. "Bud" May, age 85, of Appleton and formerly of Wauwatosa, died unexpectedly at an Oshkosh hospital due to complications of surgery, Wednesday, July 13, 2005. He was born on April 28, 1920 in Fond Du Lac to John and Adolphene (Schoening) May. Bud was a graduate of Fond Du Lac High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He married Betty Jean Schneider on September 9, 1944 and she preceded him in death on February 23, 2001. Lyle was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Appleton and its Young at Heart group. He formerly served as head usher at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa. Bud spent most of his adult life in Wauwatosa where the Falk Corporation employed him. Bud moved to the Fox Valley in 2001 to be closer to his family. Bud was a skilled machinist and furniture restorer who enjoyed baseball, golfing, chair caning and woodworking. He had served as a baseball coach at Fond Du Lac High School. Bud was especially proud of and devoted to his family and worked hard to provide for them.
Bud is survived by his loving children: Susan (Ron) Ernst of Appleton, Thomas (Barbara) May of Oconomowoc, Carol (Thomas) Behrend of Eden, Wyoming, Timothy (Susan) May of Greenville. He is further survived by grandchildren: Amy Sue (David) Werner of Appleton, Andrew (Julie) Ernst of Appleton, Aaron (Jenn) May of Wales; Adam, Emily and Jonathan May of Oconomowoc; and Bryan May of Greenville; great-granddaughters: Alayna May Werner and Savanna Joy Werner; a great-grandson due in November; one brother: Donald (Barbara) May of Seattle, Washington; nieces, nephews, and his black lab, Lizzie.
Preceding Bud in death are his wife, parents, one brother: LaVerne May, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3009 North Mead Street, Appleton, with Reverend Dennis Ellisen officiating. Lyle will be laid to rest in the family plot next to his beloved Betty in New Elm Cemetery in rural Oshkosh. A time of visitation and support will be held on Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
