Mary M. Borkovich, age 94, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Omro, died peacefully Thursday, February 23, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN following a short illness. She was born March 19, 1911 in the Milwaukee area, the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret (Okrajek) Sajdak. She married Ambrose J. "Borky" Borkovich at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cudahy, WI on May 16, 1936. He preceded her in death on Tuesday, March 22, 1994.
Mary was a homemaker in the truest sense. She enjoyed baking the old fashioned way, making her pastries and other goods with dough made from flour, yeast and other ingredients. Mary had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to have fun, laughing often and making other people laugh as well. Mary had a zest for life and enjoyed many activities. When she wasn't baking or caring for her family, she could be found crocheting or playing Aggravation. These were more than hobbies, they were passions for her. She wore many crocheting needles down while making and sharing her treasures with others. Aggravation for her was best when winning, which she did more often than not. Mary was an avid Notre Dame Hockey fan, a Green Bay Packer football fan, and generally enjoyed watching all sporting events.
Mary is loved and will be missed by her daughters and sons in law, Barbara and Aaron McDowell of Sun City West, AZ, Elaine and Gilman Strand of Rochester, MN, and MaryAnn Gehring of Stuart, Fl; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters in law, Rudy Sajdak and Lawrence and Margaret Sajdak, all of Alaska, Bob and Betty Sajdak of Michigan; sister, Katherine Slancik of Ashland, WI, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Ann Bumbach; sister in law, Mary Sajdak and brother in law, Martin Slancik.
In respect to Mary's memory, a visitation will be held on Monday, February 27, 2006 at the Omro Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and then again on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 in Marian Hall at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Omro from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. Joseph Mattern Officiating. Burial will follow in the Omro Cemetery. A memorial in her name has been established.
