Richard R. Ratchman age 83 of Winneconne, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Tuesday morning, July 18, 2006, at Omro Care Center where he had been since March 16, 2006. Richard put up a courageous fight for the sake of his family.
He was born on September 24, 1922 to John and Augusta (Wenzlaff) Ratchman in Marshfield. He was the youngest of 16 children. He attended Oshkosh Technical College and excelled in woodworking and machinist skills. From 1943 to 1946 Richard served his country in the European Theatre. When he returned home from his service he met and courted Evelyn J. Nelson. They were married on December 18, 1947 in Oshkosh.
Richard was kind, heroic, and full of integrity. He enjoyed using his craftsman skills to build homes for his family. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He worked for Kimberly Clark and retired after working for there for 35 years. He and Evelyn enjoyed traveling to visit family across the country. He was a member of Winneconne Christian Fellowship Church.
Richard is survived by his wife: Evelyn; sons: Richard J. (Karen) Ratchman of Appleton and Kirk N. (Penny) Ratchman of Butte des Morts; grandchildren: Shelly (Peter) Bodoh and Jennifer (Shawn) Hewitt of Neenah, Eric (Josefa Abdelnour) Ratchman of New Haven, Connecticut, and Joy and Beth Ratchman of Butte des Morts; great-grandchildren: Austin and Melody Bodoh and Gabrielle and Samantha Hewitt. A daughter: Linda Klemp and great-granddaughter: Myranda Bodoh preceded him in death as well as his 15 siblings and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
A memorial service for Richard will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, Pastor Dan Gibson officiating. A time of visitation and support will be held on Saturday at the funeral chapel from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Winneconne Christian Fellowship Church in memory of Richard.
