Robert D. Barber Jr., of Oshkosh died on Sunday, April 22, 2007. He was born to the late Robert and Viola (Korth) Barber on January 5, 1930.
Bob was a talented candy maker who when he retired from Barber's Candy Shop continued to spread cheer with his candy which he took to people he cared about. His specialties were almond toffee and double chocolate truffles. Bob had a passion for gardening, reading, history and researching his family's genealogy. He was gifted with a keen intellect to pursue these interests. Bob's Huskies were his love and companions. Since he served as a Marine in the Korean Conflict Bob never forgot the phrase, "Once a Marine always a Marine." Bob and his unique personality will be missed by his friends and family.
Bob is survived by his sister, Betsey (Larry) Miller of Ripon; nieces: Darcie (Ron) Shipka of Wilson, Wyoming, and Jodie (Rodney) Schutt of Memphis, Tennessee; grand-nieces: Maycie Lea Schutt and Chase Barber Shipka; and cousins: Joanne Dopson and Thomas Barber.
A graveside service for Bob with full military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 11, 2007 at Riverside Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at Noon on Monday at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. Memorials may be given to the Winnebago Marine Corp. League.
