Robert "Bob" David Johnson, Sr., age 78, of Oshkosh, passed away at home with family by his side, on August 9, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer.
Bob was born in Chicago on April 19, 1934 to Archie E. Johnson and Grace Katherine (Leonard) Johnson and was the youngest of three children. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Barbara and Ruth. From young on, Bob always had a love of horses. It is at a local Chicago riding stable where he met the one and only love of his life, Muriel, and they were married on August 30, 1952.
Bob spent his early years honing his tradesman skills as a union concrete finisher in Chicago during the building seasons and drove a fuel oil truck for Standard Oil in the winter. He then built a home for his family in Lake County, IL, started a business called American Enterprises and in 1971 bought the Saddle & Leather Shop in Oshkosh and moved his family to Wisconsin. The last 30+ years, Bob has spent enjoying people in the sales profession as a District Rep for Berg Equipment Company, ending his work life as an Independent Dealer for Wick Buildings- all while enjoying the pure pleasure of pouring a bit of concrete work on the side.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Muriel; three children: a son, Bob, Jr. (Denise); two daughters, Linda (John) Pintar and Barbara (Brian) Schulze; six grandchildren: John (Jenny) Pintar, Michael (Jolene) Pintar, Amy (Ken) Graham, Bob Johnson, Brian Schulze and David Schulze (Katie, fiancée); eight great- grandchildren: Taylor, John, Kelsey, Samantha, Justin, Michael, Adalynn and Kenny.
Outside of work, Bob enjoyed encouraging family member's goals and passions, his trips to Jamaica, his Harley Davidson motorcycle and membership in the Oshkosh Aces and sharing quiet time and good conversations with family, neighbors and friends.
Bob was a man of great character who always made time to listen earnestly to your thoughts and ideas and always embraced life eagerly. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many treasured friends and business associates he has made throughout the years.
In celebration of his life, a memorial service will be held for Bob at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church, 913 Nebraska St., Oshkosh, with Rev. Chadwick Graham officiating. A time of visitation is being held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established in Bob's name at Grace Lutheran Church & School.
The family would like to extend a special 'Thank You' to our father's friend and doctor, Dr. Ringwala, to Dr. Gremminger and to the Affinity Home Care Hospice Team, especially Phil, for the kind and loving care they provided to Bob during his difficult battle. There were others that provided smiles, hugs and support to him as well- and to you also, we extend our sincerest and heartfelt gratitude.
