Obituary

Rev. Susan B. Sheffer-Meyer, age 81 of Oshkosh, died on December 14, 2025. She was the second daughter born in George C. Sheffer and Ruth I. (Oxholm) Sheffer-Fuchs on September 14, 1944, in Oshkosh, WI. She was united in marriage to Rev. Thomas A. Meyer on December 30, 1990, in Brookfield, Wisconsin.
A graduate of Oshkosh High School, her undergraduate degree was obtained from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. She earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1982 from Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, IA. Prior to pursuing her master’s degree, she was employed as a Post-graduate Licensed Practical Nurse at Theda Clark Memorial Hospital, Neenah, WI, for 13 years.
During her 43 years in ordained ministry she was ordained at Olivet Lutheran Church, in Lacrosse, WI, then served at the ELCA-Nebraska Synod Staff, Omaha, NE; Cross of Life Lutheran, Brookfield, WI; St. John’s Lutheran, Madison, WI, St. Stephen’s Lutheran, Rogersville, WI; St. John’s Lutheran, Marion, WI; Living Hope Lutheran, Ettrick, WI, Pastor developer of Peace Lutheran, Tomah, WI, Visitation Pastor at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac and Interim Grace Lutheran, Ripon, WI.
She will be remembered for her love of preaching and teaching, especially children and young adults, and for her love of visitation ministry. Among her hobbies were fishing, swimming and spending time at their permanent campsite, “Meyer’s Sanctuary” in Wild Rose. She loved spending time with family, decorating both home and church seasonally, and exploring her family tree.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Tom Meyer; sister, Barbara (Karl) Wege of Oshkosh; brother, Steven (Sue) Sheffer of Oshkosh; two special nieces and Goddaughters, Amy (Tim) Alvarez and Wendy (Nathan) Larson; nephews, James Wagner and Tony Alvarez; great-nieces, Taya and Abigail Alvarez, Elia and Harper Larson; great-nephew, Alfonso Alvarez; sister-in-law, Susan (Milos) Delja of Lincoln, NE and their children, Mia, Zoe and Mihilio; brother-in-law, John (Nici) Meyer of Ankeny, IA and their child, Kat Meyer. Further survived by her father-in-law, Lee Meyer of Lincoln, NE; mother-in-law, Linda Walker, Lincoln, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Richard F. Fuchs; sisters, Sandee Nelson and Sheila Alvarez; brothers-in-law, Bob Nelson and Alfonso Alvarez; and nephew, Jack Meyer.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 3, 2026, at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Wisconsin American Dr., Fond du Lac, Wisconsin 54937, visitation from 9:00am to 11:00pm, with service to immediately follow. Susan will be interred at Ellenwood Cemetery, in Oshkosh, WI. Cremation has taken place.
