Warren I. "Cap" Bartels, age 89, of Oshkosh, passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday morning, July 9, 2005. He was born on March 27, 1916 in the Town of Black Wolf, a son of the late Theodore and Emma (Hinz) Bartels. Warren married Agnes Kritz on May 14, 1937. She preceded him in death on February 13, 1980. He married Nora Miller on August 21, 1981.
Warren proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and Berlin Crisis and received the silver star, bronze star, purple heart with two clusters and various campaign ribbons. He had worked for and retired from the Wisconsin Telephone Company. He greatly enjoyed golfing, traveling and time spent with family and friends. He was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Nora, of Oshkosh; five children, Ronald (Sharon) Bartels of Cerritos, California, Barbara (Frank) DiFatta of Canoga Park, California, Theodore (Chieko) Bartels, Steven and Robert Bartels all of Oshkosh. He is further survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Roebke and a brother, Ira Bartels.
Funeral services for Warren will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 338 N. Eagle Street with Reverend David F. Pagel officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund is being established.
