GOING BACK IN TIME

Our History

Seefeld Funeral Home has proudly served Oshkosh families since the early 1900s, guided by a tradition of compassion, modesty, and unwavering dedication to the community.

Early Years – The Marquardt Era

The roots of our funeral home trace back to Robert Marquardt, who founded Marquardt’s Funeral Parlor in the early 1900s. Born in 1875 in Pila, Germany, Robert immigrated to Oshkosh in 1882 and later transitioned from carpentry to funeral service. By 1919, he established his undertaking business on Oregon Street, laying the foundation for a legacy of service. His sons, Gilbert and Leonard, later joined him and continued caring for families for several decades.

The Seefeld Legacy

In 1979, the Marquardt family sold the funeral home to Ken Seefeld, who renamed the business and ushered in a new era. His son, Doug Seefeld, continued the tradition, supporting local families with compassion and professionalism.

Modern Transformation

In 2001, Steve and Denise Kwiatkowski purchased the funeral home, blending its historic charm with modern updates and expanded amenities. Their thoughtful stewardship ensured continuity of care and brought new services—including expanded gathering spaces, enhanced digital tribute capabilities, and the facilities families rely on today.

A Historic Landmark

Our building at 1025 Oregon Street—with its Mediterranean-style terracotta roof, arched entrances, and architectural character—was built in 1930 and is recognized as a historic landmark in Oshkosh.

Today, Seefeld Funeral & Cremation Services remains committed to honoring the spirit of its founders by providing meaningful, personalized, and dignified care to every family we serve.
